Cross-registration
If you are enrolled at another university, you have two options for additionally studying at Paderborn University.
Full cross-registration ("Gro?e Zweith?rerschaft")
- Students can be admitted to an additional (different) degree programme at Paderborn University than at their primary university.
- Admission entitles the cross-registered student to take examinations and final examinations during the course of study (Bachelor's/Master's degree).
- Cross-registered students receive a student licence, but no semester ticket.
- If you are a cross-registered student at Paderborn University and wish to continue your studies in the following semester, you must submit the certificate of enrolment from your primary university when you re-register without being asked.
How do I apply?
In principle, the regular application and enrolment process must be followed. The regular application and enrolment deadlines for the desired (admission-free/restricted) degree programme also apply. Please note, however:
- As part of the enrolment process, you have the option of indicating that you are applying for a (full) cross-registration. Instead of proof of payment of the semester fees, you must then submit the enrolment certificate from the primary university.
- When applying for a degree programme with restricted admission, you will also need a certificate from the primary university stating that the degree programme (or individual subjects) is not subject to admission restrictions.
How can I change my status from cross-registered student to regular student?
You can apply electronically via PAUL > Studium > Antr?ge until 30.09. (winter term) / 31.03. (summer term) to change from cross-registered student to regular student at Paderborn University (or the other way round).
Partial cross-registration ("Kleine Zweith?rerschaft")
- Students may cross-register at Paderborn University with the authorisation to attend individual courses if the courses are not offered at the primary university in the corresponding semester.
- Admission entitles the holder to take examinations during the course of study, but not final examinations.
- Regular students are given priority when allocating places on courses. Admission to the partial cross-registrationdoes not constitute a legal entitlement to attend specific courses. If you are interested in a course, you must contact the relevant lecturer to find out whether you can participate.
- Paderborn University charges a fee of 100 Euros for the partial cross-registration. The admission is not possible until proof of payment has been provided.
- Admission is always for the duration of one semester. If you wish to attend courses in another semester, you must apply for admission again.
- Cross-registered students do not receive a semester ticket.
How do I apply?
In principle, the regular application and enrolment process must be followed. However, unlike enrolment in a degree programme (regular students/full cross-registration), admission to Partial cross-registration does not require a two-step process involving an application and enrolment form. The application in PAUL is already considered an application for admission. This means:
- The deadline for admission to Partial cross-registration is considered an enrolment deadline and not an application deadline.
- Step 6 of the application and enrolment process is not applicable.
Partial cross-registration as part of a cooperation agreement with the Detmold University of Music (HfM) or the Paderborn Faculty of Theology
- Existing cooperation agreements enable students of the HfM Detmold and the Paderborn Faculty of Theology to be admitted to courses in the following degree programmes/subjects:
HfM Detmold
- Musik (subject in all teaching programmes except Lehramt an Gymnasien und Gesamtschulen)
- Musikwissenschaft (B.A., M.A. or as a subject in Zwei-Fach-Bachelor/Zwei-Fach-Master)
- PopMedia Culture (M.A.)
Theologische Fakult?t Paderborn
- Katholische Religionslehre (subject in all teaching programmes)
- Philosophie (subject in Zwei-Fach-Bachelor/Zwei-Fach-Master)
- Theologie (subject in Zwei-Fach-Bachelor/Zwei-Fach-Master)
- Wirtschaftsethik (subject in B.Sc. Wirtschaftswissenschaften)
- Admission is always for the duration of one semester. If you wish to attend courses in another semester, you must apply for admission again.
- You will not receive a semester ticket from Paderborn University.
