Offers for (expectant) mothers

Various measures are offered at Paderborn University to give university members (expectant) mothers the opportunity to support each other with compatibility-related problems, to network and to critically reflect together on the expectations placed on them in both areas of life.

Aim:

The programme is intended to give women who are pursuing both professional and family goals the opportunity to discuss their dual role as mother and professional/student and the social and personal expectations placed on them in a protected atmosphere and to support each other with the help of peer counselling.

Target group:

The programme is aimed at mothers who work or study at the university. Participation is open to all status groups, so that female students, doctoral candidates, academic staff, technical and administrative staff, post-docs, junior professors and professors can take part. The programme is not only aimed at mothers, but also at expectant mothers and women who are planning to have their first child in the near future.

Programme structure:

The main component of the programme is an introduction to peer counselling as a personnel development measure. This is a counselling concept in which 5-8 participants reflect in a structured way on a specific case brought in by a participant and develop solutions together. One focus is on the special requirements and problems of the dual role as a working woman/student and mother.

The purpose of peer counselling is to develop new ideas and thus greater scope for decision-making and also to cope better with professional (and personal) problems. It is an effective instrument for promoting (future) managers and strengthens their own positioning and role-finding. For women with children in particular, it opens up the opportunity to systematically discuss their role as a mother and to create new opportunities for action that also enable a resource-orientated balance between parenthood and academia or career/studies.

The participants are first familiarised with the method of peer counselling in one or two sessions by a trainer. The group meetings take place at regular intervals over a six-month period. The trainer can be consulted at any time if questions arise. A further seminar on advanced peer counselling techniques is offered around halfway through the programme.

Women are often very restricted by their individual ideas and expectations of a mother's role. The German discourse is also characterised by a relatively rigid image of motherhood. The workshop "Mother images as stress factors" is therefore offered as a further component, in which the participants use various creative methods to become aware of their personal images of "motherhood". This should make it possible to try out other approaches.

Accompanying lectures can be attended as part of a lecture series or individual lectures, which look at the topic of motherhood from a social, historical and international perspective.

伟德体育_伟德国际手机1946-在线*平台@s and lectures on the topic of "Reconciling motherhood and work" are regularly offered as part of internal training and development programmes. In a mixture of lecture, discussion and exchange of experiences, the workshops focus on the framework conditions for reconciling work and motherhood in the university context. The opportunities and advantages of actively practising motherhood will be considered, as will the problems and difficulties involved in finding a satisfactory work-life balance. How can mothers better reconcile family and career? How can they manage both tasks well and happily, and how can they avoid excessive demands? What do mothers need to be happy at work and at home? These questions are at the centre of the workshops. Participants are given the opportunity to develop strategies and solutions for a satisfactory work-life balance together with other mothers. Wishes and suggestions for the university as an employer to enable a better balance between active motherhood and career can also be developed during the workshops.

Employees of all status groups at UPB have the opportunity to take advantage of coaching programmes. Coaching enables employees to reflect on their own professional role and develop options for action for individual professional concerns with professional support. One of the concerns can also be the compatibility of family responsibilities and career/profession. Some offers are organised by the Equal Opportunities Officer. In addition, there are coaching programmes in cooperation with the Human Resources Development department and the Equal Opportunities Officer.
