Information Security @ UPB

Paderborn University has established an information security team to serve a central point of contact for information security issues.

Information security thus supports data protection, which involves safeguarding personal data from misuse, thereby protecting the privacy and personal rights of those affected.

The Information Security Team at Paderborn University

  • provides advice on information security issues to users of committees, departments and information, communication and media technologies.
  • develops recommendations on technical, organisational and awareness measures, working closely with the CIO, IT operators, the data protection officer and the Executive Board of Paderborn University.
  • is the central point of contact in the event of information security incidents and supports the relevant departments in coordinating their response to limit damage to the university.

Data protection gives rise to legal requirements for information security. For example, breaches of personal data protection must be reported to the supervisory authority by the university within 72 hours. All information security incidents within the university must also be reported as soon as they are identified.
