Offers at the Paderborn University
All of UPB's family-friendly university programmes are available to single parents.
The Kangaroo Project is an offer explicitly for single parents of students and the project "Substitute grandparents for uni kids" project offers single parents a very helpful form of support in everyday life.
Counselling options
At the VAMV (Association of Single Mothers and Fathers) NRW, single parents can call 0201/ 82774-799 for psycho-social counselling from qualified contact persons. They listen to those seeking advice, listen to their worries and concerns and explore options for action.
Paderborn University's Family Service Office advises single parents/students/employees on all issues relating to the compatibility of studies/work and family responsibilities. These include topics such as financial support options, special childcare solutions or organising your studies with child(ren).
The district of Paderborn offers counselling for single parents in the administration building at Aldegrever Str. 10 to 14, covering topics such as custody and maintenance law, social benefits and childcare.

Further support | Deutschlandstipendium
The following offer represents a further support option for single parents of students:
The university's own Studienfonds OWL foundation has been awarding merit and social scholarships since 2006 and Germany Scholarships since 2011. As part of this programme, the federal government subsidises private donations that the universities raise in order to fund scholarships for talented and high-achieving students.
One of these scholarships is co-financed by donations from the Zonta Club Paderborn, which aims to support single-parent students in the final phase of their studies who are having difficulties financing their degree. The aim is to give them the opportunity to invest as much time as possible in completing their degree, alongside the demands of studying and parenthood, without having to work a lot.
The Family Service Office will be happy to advise you on the application process.
Many students with child(ren) often do not consider themselves eligible for funding. This is very unfortunate, as they do not realise the commitment, strength, perseverance and patience required to complete a degree course with child(ren). This is especially true for single parent students.
